As you can see, Miranda IM – DotnineEdition is on ice. The problem is, that OTR and some other relevant plugins are not working well since newer protocol/core versions and they will be not updated soon.

The other point is, that Pidgin seems quite easier to configure and for me much more stable. There are also no database integrity problems as everything is saved into XML files. Some Plugins will be missed in Pidgin if you come from Miranda IM. There are also less plugins available and sometimes hard to find.  But Pidgin have a really good API documentation, which should make it easy to create them by yourself. I created the autohide and scroll to bottom plugin to get my basic functionality used under Miranda IM. Another point I really missed was the single click behaviour from Miranda IM. For Pidgin you have to double click on the system tray icon to show the buddy list. Therefore I created a single click hack to make it behave like Miranda IM under Windows.

Autohide

• Autohide buddy list if out of focus for a specified time
• Make buddy list always on top, also if not focused
• Remove the maximize/minimize buttons of the buddy list

Scroll to bottom

• Scrolls chat history of created conversation windows automatically to the bottom

Single click hack

• Single click on the pidgin system tray will open/close the buddy list like a double click
• Single click on the pidgin system tray will close the buddy list if already focused or on top (full visible)
• If the buddy list is hidden by another window, a single click on the system tray icon will bring it to the top

All these plugins, hacks and much more are included in the new
Pidgin – DotnineEdition, preconfigured for those which don’t want to search for all these little improvements.

The Miranda IM DotnineEdition is updated to v2.3.6.0. If fixes the OTR problem with windows 7 and updated the core to 0.8.11.

OTR will not work well with the spell-checker plug-in and windows 7. It can take up to five minutes to create a secure connection with OTR. The computer with a CPU usage of 100% will not react for this time. Creating a new OTR-Key can take even longer. You must remove spellcheckerW.dll or disable it in your Miranda IM plug-in options.

The DotnineEdition installer will automatically remove the spell-checker plug-in from your installed Miranda IM version if you update it with OTR enabled.

The Miranda core is updated to version 0.8.9 which fixes several bugs also in the jabber protocol. Several plug-ins are updated to their newest version. You are able to install it over an old v2.3.x.y installation.

Today the Miranda IM core 0.8.0 was released. Miranda IM – DotnineEdition v2.10 uses now the new 0.8.0 core. One feature is the ability to add and manage accounts from the new Account Manager. Also, SSL support is now built-in to take advantage of encrypted connections.

User who want to upgrade from Miranda IM – DotnineEdition v1.7x to v2.x should save their old database and uninstall v1.7x first. Many preferences have changed and it will lead to problems if an old database is used. With the “import” plug-in it is possible to import contacts and history entries from the old database. Upgrading from v2.x (Beta) to v2.10 (Stable) is possible without any problems.
