Goodby Miranda, hello Pidgin
June 6th, 2010 by Andreas - Posted in PidginAs you can see, Miranda IM – DotnineEdition is on ice. The problem is, that OTR and some other relevant plugins are not working well since newer protocol/core versions and they will be not updated soon.
The other point is, that Pidgin seems quite easier to configure and for me much more stable. There are also no database integrity problems as everything is saved into XML files. Some Plugins will be missed in Pidgin if you come from Miranda IM. There are also less plugins available and sometimes hard to find. But Pidgin have a really good API documentation, which should make it easy to create them by yourself. I created the autohide and scroll to bottom plugin to get my basic functionality used under Miranda IM. Another point I really missed was the single click behaviour from Miranda IM. For Pidgin you have to double click on the system tray icon to show the buddy list. Therefore I created a single click hack to make it behave like Miranda IM under Windows.
Autohide
- Autohide buddy list if out of focus for a specified time
- Make buddy list always on top, also if not focused
- Remove the maximize/minimize buttons of the buddy list
Scroll to bottom
- Scrolls chat history of created conversation windows automatically to the bottom
Single click hack
- Single click on the pidgin system tray will open/close the buddy list like a double click
- Single click on the pidgin system tray will close the buddy list if already focused or on top (full visible)
- If the buddy list is hidden by another window, a single click on the system tray icon will bring it to the top
All these plugins, hacks and much more are included in the new
Pidgin – DotnineEdition, preconfigured for those which don’t want to search for all these little improvements.

Hi ,I’m very glad to have such a fancy plugin but it’s not compatible with the older version 2.6.6. Could you please provide us a binary file that compatible with 2.6.6? Thanks a lot!

Hello idno,
First, can you give me please more information about what plugin you need for 2.6.6? Binaries for Windows or Linux? And only as a hint, Pidgin 2.6.6 is an old version. Pidgin 2.7.1 is the current version with support.
Second, most of my plugins should work for 2.6.6, only the single click hack depends on 2.7.1. And if you need a 2.7.1 Version for Windows including all these plugins/hacks/fixes, you can install my compilation.
Regards,
Andreas

Thanks a lot for your responding!
I’m using the old version 2.6.6 on windows platform for some certain resons, and I’d like to have a ‘scroll to bottom’ plugin built on the this.
I do have tried to put the ‘scroll to bottom’ dll file into plugins folder, while pidgin said: ‘Error: ABI version mismatch 2.7.x (need 2.6.x),Check the plugin website for an update.’
Thanks again,
BR

Hi, sorry to bother you. I want the autohide option in windows, as I had in Mac. So I downloaded the plugin, but I have no idea what to do with it. Could you explain in steps what to do after hitting download? Thanks

Hi, the plugin will only hide the buddy list if out of focus. If you want this feature for pidgin follow my steps.
1. Stop Pidgin\AppData\Roaming\.purple\plugins\ )
2. Extract the autohide.zip file
3. Copy the plugin (autohide.dll) into your Pidgin installation folder (normally c:\Program Files (x86)\Pidgin\plugins\) or in your user settings for Pidgin (c:\Users\
4. Start Pidgin and go to the plugin menu (Tools – Plugins). Default shortcut is STRG+U if you have focused the buddy-list
5. Search for autohide and use the button configure plugin at the bottom of the list
6. Select autohide buddy list and define your time in seconds after the buddy list should be hided if out of focus.
7. If it will not work try to restart pidgin. Sometimes it conflicts with other plugins for initial setup.
Hope this helped.

You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with
your blog.
